If I'm the Panthers, I may decide to sit Perkins next week. I wouldn't want the Stallions to get used to defending him; rather, unleash him against them the following week in the playoffs.

That's a very real possibility. Plus avoids injury. But he gets less play time.
I'm seeling Etling getting the start in the USFL-C championship; Perkins the backup with significant play time.
Next week could be same, but anything is possible.
Give Houston and CJ credit played hard all game.
